Donor Grants and Cost Recovery
Leaders in donor compliance
Humentum is widely recognized as a leader in NGO finance, grant management, and donor compliance with USAID, FCDO, and the EC. We have offered customized consultancy projects and trainings to strengthen organizational, team, and individual capacities in these areas for over 20 years – first as our legacy organizations, and then as Humentum.
We have also built significant experience providing support to donors and organizations by strengthening the organizational management capacity of their grant recipients to comply with donor requirements. We provide these services both remotely and locally across the world through our network of 120 expert consultants.
Lauren Van Enk, World Vision
Humentum’s report and presentation on USG Compliance were done concisely and clearly so that any stakeholder could easily digest them across our offices in Kenya and Indonesia. The work with Humentum opened up a great conversation within our team that can continue beyond finance and procurement.
Sheila Chanani, GFEMS
The Humentum consultants assigned to this project had decades of combined experience in accountability and auditing frameworks, with deep expertise in Value for Money (VfM) approaches in the UK development sector. They instilled a strong sense of confidence in all stakeholders that they could implement the frameworks and worked effectively across cultures.
We can offer your organization:
A review and revision of current finance, administration, cost recovery, procurement, grant and contract management, and sub-grants management policies to make them fit-for-purpose and aligned with the main key donor requirements.
Indirect cost recovery optimization by analyzing current calculation methodology including an organization’s business model, its cost structure, and its revenue streams. We assess our client’s definitions of direct costs and indirect costs (including definitions of similar functions at both the field and headquarters (HQ) levels) and analyze what presently constitute direct project costs and project support costs in the client’s budgeting.
Review of indirect cost recovery and NICRA or DFAT agreed rates with recommendations for clients on optimizing their indirect cost rate recovery and any negotiated rates such as NICRA with the US Department of State moving forward.
Advisory Support with NICRA application submissions to the United States Government (USG)
Advisory support in responding to queries from USG regarding a negotiated NICRA to ensure that the current treatment of costs is correct and/or to be able to justify such treatment to the USG.
Case Study: Global Fund to End Modern Slavery
Humentum worked with Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, an organization funded through DFID, which requires grantees to demonstrate Value for Money (VfM).
