David is a chartered certified accountant with over 20 years post qualification experience. He started in the public sector in the UK before moving into the international development field in 2007, working with INGO’s and the private sector in Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Laos and Myanmar. David has led the finance function in organizations both in the UK headquarters and in the field in South East Asia, developing and implementing policies and procedures that are compliant with the major donors requirements (USAID, DFID, SDC, EU), as well as providing strategic financial management guidance to senior management and Directors. David had also worked on a range of consultancy assignments, and since 2016 has been delivering financial management training courses for Humentum in SE Asia.
Case studies
David enjoys leading and collaborating with both finance and non-finance teams, to help develop and implement robust, practical financial management systems that build organizational capacity to help deliver financially compliant projects. In Nigeria, he worked on a USAID funded Malaria project to develop the internal financial policies and procedures, followed by a capacity building programme to ensure managers were trained and confident to meet their financial management responsibilities. In Asia, he has also enjoyed building local staff capacity through the development of a range of tailor-made short courses and one-to-one mentoring. He has also developed a particular interest in the identification and elimination of Fraud, having led several investigations and also delivers Humentum’s Fighting Fraud in NGOs.
