Transforming INGO Models for Equity

Equitable operating model transformation

No one part of the development and humanitarian sector can make change happen by themselves. But is there an efficient, effective way that INGOs, CSOs, and funders can work together? Is it possible to transform roles, structures, and relationships into a system that is equitable, sustainable, and locally led?

The work done for the TIME Initiative (Transforming INGO Models for Equity) addresses that question for one specific segment, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights or SRHR. We are now able to share the tools and processes across all segments within the larger sector. With a focus on collaboration, practical tools, and useful processes, TIME helps organizations build equity, resilience, and accountability into both their day-to-day operations as well as their future vision for a more sustainable and locally led future.

TIME Working Out Loud Collection

A living collection of insights, reflections, and shared learning from TIME participants. This collection provides an open and transparent view into the ongoing process of transformation, offering valuable lessons and best practices for other organizations looking to embark on their own journey.

Since 2022, TIME has advanced this mission through three distinct stages:

1

Stage 1: Laying the Groundwork (2022) We explored the power dynamics between funders, INGOs, and NNGOs to create a shared understanding of how the sector can evolve toward equity, resilience, and accountability.

2

Stage 2: Aligning for Change (2023) We collaborated across individual, organizational, and sectoral levels to define the realignment required for INGOs to lead meaningful transformation.

3

Stage 3: Advancing Action Together (2024 and Beyond) We are broadening engagement to include more diverse voices and leveraging global funding to drive organization-level transformation and sector-wide reform.
